For years I wore a chain, bandoleer style, while bicycle-commuting between Johns Hopkins U and Highlandtown. All nasty comments and aggressive actions by pedestrians and drivers stopped during this time. That was in the 1970s. Before carrying the chain, I was run off the road by drivers and regularly yelled at by teens. The extra weight was worth it. I moved in 1980.
