A female cyclist was attacked on the CCT Trail on May 21. She was struck several times and her bicycle stolen. One week later a male
cyclist was killed on the Mount Vernon Trail (Daingerfield Island) in a failed robbery attempt. The suspect who was charged with the
slaying has been identified by the May 21 victim as her assailant.
As convictions can be difficult to obtain the police are seeking more information and witnesses. The likelihood of a conviction may
depend on how much quality information the police can acquire.

Pedestrian and bicycle safety is not getting its fair share.

Bicyclist and pedestrians are over-represented in traffic fatalities: ten percent of trips are made on foot or bicycle, yet 13 percent of traffic deaths nationwide are pedestrians or bicyclists. Yet federal transportation safety dollars have not been used to address this problem.

In Maryland on average ~ every two hours a pedestrian or cyclist bounces off a car and ends up injured or dead.

Trail recognized as one of the world’s best public spaces

The Project for Public Spaces, an international nonprofit organization
dedicated to creating and sustaining public places that build communities, has
recognized the Capital Crescent Trail as one of “21 great places that show how
transportation can enliven a community”. The CCT is described as:

“the most-used rail-trail in the nation, transporting one million
walkers and bicyclists a year to destinations as varied as suburban Bethesda
Row, a trendy restaurant hotspot, and Fletcher’s Boathouse, an angler’s
hangout. A green oasis in the midst of traffic-clogged suburbia, the Capital
Crescent trail connects suburban Maryland to the Potomac waterfront with many
natural and historic destinations in between.”

Virtual Street Reality

For me art is an important part of life and the environment and this transforms a mundane cityscape into something quite marvelous. Anyway the intro from the web page:
Julian Beever is an English artist who is famous for his art on the pavements of England, France, Germany, USA, Australia and Belgium. It’s peculiarity? Beever gives his drawings an anamorphosis view, his images are drawn in such a way which gives them three dimensionality when viewing from the correct angle. It’s amazing !!!
