Columbia Downtown Master plan
The next meeting of the Transportation Advocates will be held on Tuesday morning, January 10, 2006 from 7:45 AM to 9 AM at the Florence Bain Senior Center, 5460 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia. Coffee will be available from 7:30 AM.
We are devoting or January 10th meting to a better understanding of the elements of the Columbia Downtown Master plan that will have far-reaching implications not only for Columbia and Howard County but the whole region. The session will particularly focus on transit and pedestrian connectivity issues., the two most frequently cited priorities mentioned by the charrette participants.
Multi-use trails
Usually I just throw away the Examiner that lands on my doorstep every morning, but I was thumbing through it today and I came upon this editorial about the new Cross County Trail in Fairfax:
It’s generally positive, but what’s strange is the closing: "The Washington area will soon become a must-see destination for hikers and bikers all over the world. Just remember that hiking trails are recreational amenities – not major commuter routes."
It seems like an incomplete thought, but what are they getting at?

Everyday life as a cyclist
Watch the following video to see the type of harassment that cyclist experience all too often. The highlight is an SUV who refuses to give up an inch of road for a cyclist even though there are no oncoming cars. So not only does the SUV pass the cyclists recklessly close the SUV has to blow the horn all the way to demonstrate that roads are for SUVs and bikes should stay in the garage where they belong.
