Ride Around the Reservoir needs help

The bikes that were being rented (or loaned for free) for a ride around the reservoir were all stolen and not one bike is left. The police are giving the park a bunch of bikes that will need to be tuned for that days rides. Meeting time: 10:30 AM and place by the tennis courts near the reservoir. So if you can come out to Druid Hill Park sometime in the AM Wednesday to help out it would be very much appreciated. Contact anne.draddy@baltimorecity.gov if you can help.

Request #2
Assuming we get some bikes together the Wednesday evening ride really can use some people just to keep an eye on things by just riding around the reservoir and being helpful from time to time. Just show up anytime between 6 and 7:30 on Wednesdays and do as many or as few laps as you would like, it really can make a difference.

How walkable is your house? (neighborhood)

This is an interesting use of Google maps to calculate how
walkable your house is by finding nearby business. I scored a 42, now if they
would do a bikeable calculation, that would be cool.

90 – 100 = Walkers’ Paradise: Most errands can be accomplished on foot and many people get by without owning a car.

70 – 90 = Very Walkable: It’s possible to get by without owning a car.

50 – 70 = Some Walkable Locations: Some stores and amenities are within walking distance, but many everyday trips still require a car.

25 – 50 = Not Walkable: Only a few destinations are within easy walking range. For most errands, driving is a must.

0 – 25 = Driving Only: Virtually no neighborhood destinations within walking range. You can walk from your house to your car!

Help save a pole and help bike parking

As you may know parking meters are/have been removed for the electronic pay for parking system and as a result we have lost bike parking. If you know of an area with old meter poles and bikes in need of parking please let us know where.

Balto-DC, Fireworks, Camping bike trip

Ride report:

James, a friend of his and myself took off for the DC fireworks. With tornado warnings they were getting everyone off the streets into shelters and we got stuck in the Jefferson Memorial for over and hour but when we came out the sun was shining and it was a great day for fireworks. At the mall we met up with more John Hopkins students The DC display was awesome and leaving by bike was so cool. They closed off a lot of roads and some were only open to pedestrians and cyclists. So we became a part of this parade of blinky lights heading off for the Capital Crescent Trail amongst standing still traffic. Dianne was our host that evening and she even offered some beer which was very welcomed after the day

The 1K Project

Baltimore has just over 1,000 bike commuters and to some that is just not a significant number so why accommodate bikes. So I searched the internet for some sort of visualization of how significant a 1,000 cars (which would be the result if we forced directly or indirectly bikes off the road.) And I found this really good machinima of a racing sim with a 1,000 cars. Is this what the roads would look like if we were forced to drive instead of ride our bikes? (Maybe I should phrase that better but still that
