The amount of electricity saved by using a 13-watt CFL instead of a conventional 60-watt bulb translates into a reduction of 450 pounds of greenhouse gases spewed by a coal-burning power plant, according to Yahoo.
"This movement is about empowering the individual — to say to every person in America that with one easy step, they can become part of a movement that will literally change the world," said Bender, producer of the Oscar-nominated documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" made by former US vice president Gore.
"I believe the CFL is the Trojan horse into the minds of the public. Once you get somebody who feels good about making a difference and at the same time saving money, you have them thinking about what else they can do."

On Thanksgiving Day I remembered a "tent city" of homeless people set up outside City Hall in Baltimore. It was a cold day so Yo and I decided to round up and donate all the spare coats we had. It was our first time visiting. It is a very well organized community. Civilized, kind and constructive. While everyone was so very grateful for what we brought, I have to say that our coats were all a bit on the small side and didn’t fit as many people as we hoped. We also learned that they could use blankets.

Global warming is the challenge of our generation, and we owe it to future
generations to take action. Your representative has the opportunity to do just that
