\nWe at velocipede are dedicated to being open to everyone. However, due to
\nsafety and liability, if someone is under 16 they must have a guardian
\nwith them at the shop at all times. This causes a problem for many
\nBaltimore youth whose guardians are either too busy, or unavailable to
\ncome in with their child. We often have to turn youth with broken bikes
\naway because we don’t have the capacity to watch them during the craziness
\nof open shop.\n<\/p>\n
\nTo solve this problem we are looking for people who are willing to spend
\none night a week mentoring one youth during open shop for at least 8
\nweeks. After the 8 week period the youth will become a junior co-op
\nmember and will have the same privileges of a normal member but may have
\nto check in with his or her mentor from time to time, and cannot bring
\nfriends to the shop unless their friends also go through the mentoring
\nprocess.\n<\/p>\n
\nWe want to start this program as soon as possible, but need a few more
\npeople committed to becoming mentors.\n<\/p>\n
