\nI would like to thank everyone for
\nthe great feedback regarding the new online trail guides. It seems that the
\nbiggest issue was simply locating the new trail guides online or downloading
\nthem into the \u201cPDF Maps\u201d app. In response to these problems I thought it might
\nbe helpful to provide a little clarification on how exactly to access these new
\nmaps. First let me remind everyone that this initiative is ongoing and not all
\nparks are completed at this time. So if the park your interested in isn\u2019t
\ncurrently available please stay tuned, we hope to have these completed as
\nquickly as possible. See the list of completed parks below for currently
\navailable trail guides. Second, and more importantly, users must access and
\ndownload the trail guides from the DNR website exclusively. To clarify, the new
\ntrail guides are only available via the DNR website and <\/span><\/span>must
\nbe accessed through each individual park website<\/span><\/span><\/i>. See detailed
\ninstructions on how to find trail maps within DNR website below.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

To access
\nthe new trail guides follow these instructions: <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
1.)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>First, visit the
\nDNR Homepage and click on the parks tab located at the top of page. DNR Homepage
\nlocated here: https:\/\/www.dnr.maryland.gov\/<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
2.) Next, from the pull down menu on
\nthe right select the park you are interested in and click view park brochure.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
3.) Under the info tab on the right
\nyou should be able to locate the new trail guide.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
4.) Once you have accessed the trail
\nguide you can view, print, or download the map at no cost. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
5.) If you would like to use the PDF
\nMaps App, You must first download the app to a phone and upload a copy of the
\ntrail guide to the app. For clarification see below.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

For those individuals who have
\ndownloaded the app or wish to use the \u201cPDF Maps\u201d app and take advantage of
\ninteractive mapping features, it is important to know that at the present time
\ntrail guides are only available via park websites and cannot be accessed through
\nthe Avenza Map Store.<\/span> This means that to download the map
\nto the app users will have to use the \u201cFrom the web\u201d option when adding maps and
\nenter the address of the online PDF or alternatively store a copy of the
\ndownloaded map to a site like Dropbox or ITunes File sharing for uploading to
\nthe app. In the future our hope is to make maps available through the Avenza Map
\nstore but currently we are not offering this option. We appreciate your patience
\nwhile we complete the new trail guides and encourage comments and feedback as we
\ncontinue to refine the product.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

DNR Now Offering Free Online
\nTrail Guides for Maryland State Parks<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
A new
\nonline trail guide mapping initiative is currently underway at the Department of
\nNatural Resources (DNR). State park and other natural resource visitors now have
\nmore options when accessing trail guides.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Previously, trail guides were only
\navailable for purchase through the DNR online store or at individual park
\noffices. Now trail guides may also be viewed online, printed from home, or
\ndownloaded in digital format at no cost to the user.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The new
\nformat of the trail guide allows visitors easier access to trail information,
\nbetter options in trip planning or hiking, and increased safety through accurate
\nup-to-date conditions of trails.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
While the
\ninitiative is underway it will be some time before all parks and other resource
\nareas have the new guides available. The list below highlights parks currently
\noffering the new trail guide.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The new
\ntrail guides are being offered as Geo-referenced Portable Document Format Maps
\nor PDF Maps. These maps can be used on any electronic device with the free Adobe
\nReader software. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Geo-referenced PDF\u2019s have all the
\nsame features as a standard PDF but they now allow visitors the ability to use
\nproven 3rd party applications that increase the functionality of the trail
\nguide. For more information see below. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Free Apps Allow Visitors
\nMore Opportunities with Online Trail Guides<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n
Newly
\nreleased applications (apps) for both IOS and Android devices allow visitors the
\nopportunity to enjoy interactive features using the new online trail
\nguides.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Apps like
\n\u201cPDF Maps\u201d released by Avenza Systems Inc. allow visitors to easily download,
\nbrowse, navigate and interact with the new geo-referenced <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
PDF trail
\nguides in both an online and offline environment. This means that visitors can
\nutilize this application and trail guide even when not connected to the
\ninternet. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
