{"id":239364009,"date":"2012-08-02T10:00:09","date_gmt":"2012-08-02T10:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=239364009"},"modified":"2012-08-02T10:00:09","modified_gmt":"2012-08-02T10:00:09","slug":"city-receiving-2-million-for-transit-and-bike-ped-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=239364009","title":{"rendered":"City Receiving $2 Million for Transit and Bike\/Ped Infrastructure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Ron Cassie, Baltimore Magazine<\/p>\n<p>The Baltimore City Department of Transportation has won four grants under two state and federal programs to upgrade bus and light rail service, further develop the downtown bicycle network, improve the Inner Harbor promenade and teach bicycle safety, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamilies are attracted to strong neighborhoods with transportation choices including bikeways and safe pedestrian access,\u201d Mayor Rawlings-Blake said in a press release, touting the grants as a step toward her oft-stated goal of attracting 10,000 new families to the city.  \u201cThese grants will go a long way to increase quality of life in Baltimore\u2019s neighborhoods.\u201d Rawlings-Blake thanked U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, the Maryland Congressional Delegation and Gov.
