{"id":239311781,"date":"2012-08-01T19:29:41","date_gmt":"2012-08-01T19:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=239311781"},"modified":"2012-08-01T19:29:41","modified_gmt":"2012-08-01T19:29:41","slug":"cops-bikes-help-cut-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=239311781","title":{"rendered":"Cops: Bikes help cut crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[B&#8217; Spokes: I would love to see more emphases on bike patrols in Baltimore.]<br \/>\n****************************************************************************************<br \/>\nbyKristi Funderburk, Asbury Park Press<br \/>\nSEASIDE PARK \u2014 The borough\u2019s police chief wanted a bicycle patrol to help improve the department\u2019s ability to combat misdemeanors in the busier sections of town.<br \/>\nIn two years, the patrol has been so effective the department is on track to generate more than $1 million in court revenue.<br \/>\nThe borough\u2019s bike patrol, established in 2011, has played a significant role in curtailing incidents from drug use to noise issues, borough Police Chief Frances Larkin said.<br \/>\n\u201cThey were very good at detecting marijuana smells, hearing disturbances and detecting underage drinking,\u201d he said. \u201cThey were very mobile and able to cover a lot of the area without being detected.\u201d<br \/>\nThat has helped the department as a whole issue more citations.
