{"id":207848193,"date":"2011-08-03T15:36:33","date_gmt":"2011-08-03T15:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=207848193"},"modified":"2011-08-03T15:36:33","modified_gmt":"2011-08-03T15:36:33","slug":"annapolis-marylands-biking-capital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=207848193","title":{"rendered":"Annapolis: Maryland\u2019s Biking Capital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If Annapolis\u2019 Bicycle Master Plan ever gets off the drawing board and onto the streets, our capital city could be Maryland\u2019s biking capital.<\/p>\n<p>    The thoughtful plan, introduced last week, is the work of the Toole Design Group whose specialty is moving people, have created bike plans across the country, from Washington, D.C., to Seattle, Washington \u2014 including Baltimore, Philadelphia, Winston Salem and Asheville.<\/p>\n<p>    Envisioned is a cross-city \u201cnetwork of on-street and off-street routes\u201d realized in six years over three phases. The first two years\u2019 projects are easy fixes requiring only paint and signage.<\/p>\n<p>    Main Street, Calvert and Cathedral streets, King George Avenue, Bay Ridge and Chesapeake avenues and a bit of Hilltop Lane fall into the first phase.<\/p>\n<p>    The plan starts with pathways and street lanes. But it doesn\u2019t stop there: Bicycle sharing stations and parking, safety education for all ages, enforcement and an active website are also part of the plan.<\/p>\n<p>    After the plan is reviewed and completed, it goes to the City Council for ratification as part of the City\u2019s Comprehensive Plan.
