{"id":192639202,"date":"2011-02-08T14:53:22","date_gmt":"2011-02-08T14:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=192639202"},"modified":"2011-02-08T14:53:22","modified_gmt":"2011-02-08T14:53:22","slug":"baltimore-county-council-lifts-limit-on-school-zone-speed-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=192639202","title":{"rendered":"Baltimore County Council lifts limit on school zone speed cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Steve Schuster<\/p>\n<p>The County Council on Monday voted to lift the limit on how many speed cameras can be deployed in school zones across the county.<\/p>\n<p>By a 5-2 vote at its Feb. 7 meeting in Towson, the council approved a proposal by 1st District Councilman Tom Quirk to lift the current cap of 15 cameras countywide.<\/p>\n<p>The bill takes effect Feb. 20.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis (speed camera program) makes our streets safer,\u201d said Quirk, who represents Catonsville and Arbutus. \u201cIf you are obeying the law and driving within the speed limit, this bill does not even affect you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s slow down traffic and protect our kids,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Quirk initially introduced the bill at a council work session on Jan. 3, saying data from county police show people are slowing down in the 15 school zones where the cameras are located.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.explorebaltimorecounty.com\/news\/111233\/baltimore-county-council-lifts-limit-school-zone-speed-cameras\/\">https:\/\/www.explorebaltimorecounty.com\/news\/111233\/baltimore-county-council-lifts-limit-school-zone-speed-cameras\/<\/a>oldId.20110208145322361<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Steve Schuster The County Council on Monday voted to lift the limit on how many speed cameras can be deployed in school zones across the county.
