I guess that&#8217;s different because they have ligament reasons to be in the road and we don&#8217;t.]<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>by <span class=\"entry-author-name\">Jeff<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-likers\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-debug\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-annotations\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-body\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"item-body\">\n<div>\n<p>Today Delaware Governor signed <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/legis.delaware.gov\/LIS\/lis145.nsf\/vwLegislation\/SB+269\/&#36;file\/legis.html?open\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SB 269<\/a> into law. The bill, modeled after an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlaws.org\/ors\/811.135\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oregon law<\/a>, enhances the penalty for drivers convicted of careless or inattentive drivers who cause serious physical injury to cyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. The new law includes sentencing guidelines such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>completion of a traffic safety course<\/li>\n<li>perform up to 100 hours of community service related to driver improvement and providing public education on traffic safety<\/li>\n<li> fines up to &#36;550<\/li>\n<li>suspension of driving privileges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In response to the bill signing, League President Andy Clarke said \u201cWe\u2019re excited that Delaware is becoming the third state in the nation to pass such a Vulnerable Road Users law that offers additional protection to cyclists and other non-motorized users of our shared roadways. It is this sort of leadership that has propelled them to 10<sup>th<\/sup> in our annual state rankings and garnered them a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly State designation.
