{"id":175001482,"date":"2010-07-19T11:31:22","date_gmt":"2010-07-19T11:31:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=175001482"},"modified":"2010-07-19T11:31:22","modified_gmt":"2010-07-19T11:31:22","slug":"frederick-bicycle-friendly-community-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=175001482","title":{"rendered":"Frederick bicycle-friendly community committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Stephanie Mlot<br \/>\nCalling all bicycling enthusiasts: The city is building an Ad Hoc Bicycle Committee, with hopes of making Frederick a bicycle-friendly community.<br \/>\nMayor Randy McClement thinks going greener will be good for economic development, in terms of bicycle tourism.<br \/>\nThe purpose of the committee, according to a news release, will be to develop a list of attainable goals in a specific time period &#8212; the five E&#8217;s:<br \/>\n&#8212; Engineering items such as on-street networks and bike parking.<br \/>\n&#8212; Education considerations involving Safe Routes to School programs and a bicycling education course.<br \/>\n&#8212; Encouragement activities such as Bike to Work Day or the promotion of advocacy groups to further bicycle events in the city.<br \/>\n&#8212; Enforcement training for the police.<br \/>\n&#8212; Evaluation methods such as a specific plan or program to reduce cyclist\/motor vehicle crashes.<br \/>\nThe committee will be composed of one non-voting alderman representative, a city transportation planner, four city residents and three city business owners.<br \/>\nMcClement is looking for a broad-based representation of the city, from a residential, commercial and geographical aspect.<br \/>\nInterested individuals should submit a resume and letter of interest by July 25 noting the Bicycle Committee to Marsha Bowers, commission coordinator, 101 N.
