There is the suggestion that poetry is underrepresented on this blog. Hence I give you:<\/p>\n

The Finger

the drivers of automobiles
\nhave very little recourse or
\noriginality.
\nwhen upset with
\nanother
\ndriver
\nthey often give him the
\nFINGER.<\/p>\n

I have seen two adult
\nmen
\nflorid of face
\ndriving along
\ngiving each other the
\nFINGER.<\/p>\n

well, we all know what
\nthis means, it\u2019s no
\nsecret.<\/p>\n

still, this gesture is
\nso overused it has
\nlost most of its
\nimpact.<\/p>\n

some of the men who give
\nthe FINGER are captains of
\nindustry, city councilmen,
\ninsurance adjusters,
\naccountants and\/or the just plain
\nunemployed.
\nno matter.
\nit is their favorite
\nresponse.<\/p>\n

people will never admit
\nthat they drive
\nbadly.<\/p>\n

the FINGER is their
\nreply.<\/p>\n

I see grown men
\nFINGERING each other
\nthroughout the day.<\/p>\n

it gives me pause.
\nwhen I consider
\nthe state of our cities,
\nthe state of our states,
\nthe state of our country,
\nI begin to
\nunderstand.<\/p>\n

the FINGER is a mind-
\nset.
\nwe are the FINGERERS.
\nwe give it
\nto each other.
\nwe give it coming and
\ngoing.
\nwe don\u2019t know how
\nelse to respond.<\/p>\n

what a hell of a way
\nto not
\nlive.<\/p>\n
