{"id":16802145,"date":"2005-07-14T11:15:45","date_gmt":"2005-07-14T11:15:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=16802145"},"modified":"2005-07-14T11:15:45","modified_gmt":"2005-07-14T11:15:45","slug":"baltimore-code-red-air-quality-alert-7-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.baltimorespokes.org\/?p=16802145","title":{"rendered":"Baltimore: Code Red air quality alert 7\/12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Summertime is here, and yesterday much of Baltimore celebrated our first Code Red air quality alert with the usual routine- getting stuck in traffic.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nOzone, or smog, in eastern Baltimore County reached &quot;unhealthy&quot; level<br \/>\nyesterday afternoon.<br \/>\nPublic health people know that air quality alerts are followed by<br \/>\nspikes in<br \/>\nhospital admissions for asthma and respiratory problems.<br \/>\nWith yesterday&#8217;s red alert came the advice that children should reduce<br \/>\noutdoor activities, and healthy adults should avoid strenuous or<br \/>\nprolonged<br \/>\nwork or exercise outdoors.<br \/>\nThrough their emissions, car drivers again yesterday managed to render<br \/>\nevery<br \/>\npark, trail and backyard unsafe.<br \/>\nThis summer&#8217;s first code red day serves as a reminder of why it is so<br \/>\nimportant to build a city the better for biking and walking (and where<br \/>\nwe&#8217;ve<br \/>\ngot viable transit system), where more people have a options for a<br \/>\ncleaner,<br \/>\nhealthy way to get around town.<br \/>\nMark Counselman<br \/>\n+++<br \/>\nRegional Ground Level Ozone Alert &#8211; Code Red Conditions<br \/>\nArea: Baltimore Metropolitan Area<br \/>\nDate and Time: 2005-07-12   6 PM<br \/>\nThe following monitoring locations are reporting Code Red conditions:<br \/>\nBaltimore County:<br \/>\n\t\t Essex Station<br \/>\n\t\t Code: Red &#8211; Unhealthy Air Quality<br \/>\n\t\t \t\t Pollutant: Ozone<br \/>\n\t\t Reading: 160 ppb<br \/>\nThank you for using the Airwatch AirAlert system.
