If you are disappointed with <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: verdana; font-size: 100%;\">the current design, such as the spacing between the rumble  strip and the white line, and how they <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: verdana; font-size: 100%;\">follow  the breakdown lane striping to a pinch, or provide few if any openings for  cyclists to exit, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana;\">PLEASE take a few moments to  review this new policy.<\/span><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px; font-family: verdana; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\"><strong>Among other excerpts from the draft:<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\">\n<li>\n<div style=\"margin-right: 0px; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">&#8220;Along  expressways where bicycles are expressly permitted to travel and along other  highways where <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">shoulder rumble strips are  desirable, the accommodation of bicyclists must be considered&#8221;.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"margin-right: 0px; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">&#8220;Where the  outside shoulder is less than five feet in width: The installation of rumble  strips is to be coordinated with the Bicycle Coordinator within the <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">Office of Planning and Preliminary Engineering, who will  provide the needed coordination with the <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee&#8221;.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"margin-right: 0px; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">&#8220;Although  safety is maximized by continuous rumble strips, for highways where the posted  speed limit <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">is less than 55 mph, gaps for  bicyclists shall be installed&#8221;.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"margin-right: 0px; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">&#8220;Transverse  rumble strips should not be placed on roadways used by bicyclists unless a  minimum clear <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">path of 4 feet is provided at  each edge of the roadway or each paved shoulder as described in <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">AASHTO\u2019s &#8220;Guide to the Development of Bicycle  Facilities&#8221;.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px; font-family: verdana; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 100%;\">This new draft, when accepted, will be used when implementing along other  MD highways in the future. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">So if you  enjoy riding in Maryland, please review and email your comments to  <\/span><a href=\"mailto:cschreiber@sha.state.md.us\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 102, 0);\">cschreiber@sha.state.md.us<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bikedel.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/md-sha-revised-guidelines-for-rumble.html\">https:\/\/bikedel.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/md-sha-revised-guidelines-for-rumble.html<\/a>oldId.20100413093628143<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Baltimore Spokes: This is just sad that I get to hear about this from Delaware cyclists.
