text-align: CENTER;\">\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.14in; text-align: CENTER;\"><b>Sustainability<br \/>\nWeekend: 23-25 October 2009<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.14in\">The Roland Park<br \/>\nCivic League will kick of its <b>Sustainability Initiative<\/b> with<br \/>\nthree-days of community activities.  The event will be one of<br \/>\nthousands of actions orchestrated globally by the virtual<br \/>\norganization <b>350.org<\/b> to raise awareness about climate change<br \/>\n(<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.350.org\/\">www.350.org<\/a><\/span><\/span>).<br \/>\nIt will involve surrounding communities and local schools and<br \/>\nchurches. This will be the first of three Sustainability Weekends<br \/>\nslated through July 2010.\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.14in\"><b>On Friday,<br \/>\n\t23 October<\/b>, local students will walk or bike to school.  Adults<br \/>\n\twill find alternative ways to get to work. That week, students will<br \/>\n\tprepare artwork and presentations on various sustainability issues:<br \/>\n\tbiodiversity, energy conservation, recycling, eco-friendly design,<br \/>\n\tclimate change and other themes.  Students will earn community<br \/>\n\tservice credits for their work.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.14in\"><b>Saturday 24<br \/>\n\tOctober<\/b> will be a sustainability &ldquo;teach-in&rdquo; and work<br \/>\n\tday. Southbound Roland Avenue will be cordoned off from Deepdene<br \/>\n\tRoad to Indian Lane from 9AM until noon.  Tables and booths will be<br \/>\n\tset up in front of the Roland Park Library. The RPCL will have a<br \/>\n\ttable where citizens can make personal sustainability pledges and<br \/>\n\tsign up for various sustainability-related activities. The Office of<br \/>\n\tSustainability, local vendors and other community organizations will<br \/>\n\thave displays and materials on sustainability themes. Students will<br \/>\n\tdisplay their sustainability artwork and presentations.  In the<br \/>\n\tafternoon students will go door-to-door to drop sustainability<br \/>\n\tleaflets and schedule homeowners for visits by the Baltimore<br \/>\n\tNeighborhood Energy Challenge (BNEC) Program captains.  The movie<br \/>\n\t&ldquo;Kilowatt Ours&rdquo; will be shown continuously that<br \/>\n\tafternoon in the RP Library.\n\t<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.14in\"><b>On Sunday,<br \/>\n\t25 October<\/b>, Roland Park will host <b>&ldquo;Sunday Streets&rdquo;<\/b><br \/>\n\t(<i>cyclovia<\/i>). Southbound Roland Avenue will be blocked at<br \/>\n\tNorthern Parkway and Cold Spring Road. All westbound lateral streets<br \/>\n\twill be barricaded. The street will be reserved for pedestrians,<br \/>\n\tcyclists, skaters and skateboarders from 8AM until 1PM.  Students<br \/>\n\tand other volunteers will be trained and deployed as safety<br \/>\n\tofficers. People from nearby communities will be invited to walk or<br \/>\n\tride to Roland Avenue.
