[Baltimore Spokes: Street trees really help make biking city streets more enjoyable in the summer time.]<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span><\/span><\/b>rees do more than we
\nthink and they do their job quietly. Trees can improve our urban environment,
\nand consequently our well-being and our economy. Trees multi-task. While removing
\nair pollutants and reducing our air temperature, they absorb and filter water,
\ncool our homes and business, increase our property values and the livability of
\nour neighborhoods. <\/span><\/span><\/span> A bird flying over
\n Baltimore can look down and see that 25% of
\nour city is covered by leaves and branches. The healthiest cities have 40% of
\ntheir land covered by trees. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Through TreeBaltimore\u2019s program, trees will be planted
\nin parks, on school grounds and on large industrial and institutional property.
\nBut, the most available planting areas in Baltimore
\nare located in the front and back yards of row house neighborhoods. Take a look
\non your street and around your neighborhood. Are there trees shading homes? Are
\nthere trees beautifying yards? Is there room for either a flowering tree or a
\nlarger shade tree on your lawn? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

TreeBaltimore offers incentives to plant
\ntrees on private property. <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\nfall TreeBaltimore gives away 1,000 young trees to residents.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nResidents receive free or reduced priced trees. Neighborhood Associations
\ncoordinate deliveries for residents. A minimum of 10 trees per neighborhood
\nmust be ordered.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
