The festivities were then moved to 2nd Avenue, where ground was broken on a similar path to extend the full length of the island.<br \/>\nOver the next two years, every other avenue will also receive a full bike lane, blocked off from traffic, while every fifth crosstown street will be opened exclusively to bicyclists and pedestrians beginning next month.<br \/>\nMark Blair, a transit worker from Queens, was busy re-timing traffic lights for bicycle speed. \u201cRiding your bike up or down the avenue, the traffic lights are going to change in sync,\u201d explained Blair. \u201cYou ride 10-15 miles per hour, and you\u2019ll be hitting all greens.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cNow that our country is taking its rightful place among the world\u2019s developed nations,\u201d said Mayor Bloomberg, \u201cit is time for our greatest city to take its place among the world\u2019s great cities.\u201d<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes-se.com\/2009\/07\/04\/new-york-bike-path-system-expanded-dramatically\/\">https:\/\/www.nytimes-se.com\/2009\/07\/04\/new-york-bike-path-system-expanded-dramatically\/<\/a>oldId.20090726111014505<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just to note that the original article was a hoax by someone masquerading as the New York Times.
