\nbike-related improvements are all about bike racks and parking!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

SUPPORT!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Please contact your congressional representatives and ask
\nthem to support new projects for the Baltimore
\narea!  The City of Baltimore has 4 active transportation projects that
\nwill need federal funding \u2013 Herring Run Trail extension, Baltimore &
\nAnnapolis Trail extension, Bike Station improvements and reconstructing the
\nMiddle Branch Bridge for cyclists and pedestrians!  A brief description of
\nthese projects can be found at www.baltimorecity.gov\/bike<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Bike Summit<\/span><\/b>
\non May 1st<\/sup> provided an array of ideas on improving biking in
\n Baltimore .  Now comes
\nthe fun part:  Contributing to make this vision a reality!  A summary
\nof the Bike Summit is available online<\/a> <\/span><\/span>soon.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

To reach one of the Mayor\u2019s Bicycle Advisory
\nCommittee 2009 goals, DOT and the MBAC will host mapping parties<\/span><\/b> later this summer.  We\u2019ll collect
\ninformation on good existing bike routes to be incorporated into a bike map for
\nthe Baltimore
\narea.  Details will follow online<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

BIKE INFRASTRUCTURE<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

New Bike Parking \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/b>The Department of
\nTransportation\u2019s Maintenance Division has installed over 60 bike racks
\nover the past month!  The communities of Highlandtown, Belair-Edison,
\n Waverley , Remington and
\n Hamilton are some of the areas where the new
\nracks are installed.  To request a bike racks, visit the online form here<\/a><\/span><\/span>. 
\nFour bike racks were installed at the
\n Federal Hill
\n Preparatory School on
\n William St . 
\nThe racks were full on their first full day of installation!  A great sign
\nfor Baltimore \u2019s
\nfuture!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

BIKE EVENTS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Bike To Work Day, <\/span><\/span><\/b>held May 15th<\/sup>, was a
\nbig success!  The downtown rally hosted 150 participants and featured
\nMayor Sheila Dixon, DOT Director Al Foxx &
\n Maryland Dept. of the Environment Secretary
\nShari Wilson.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tour Dem Parks, Hon <\/span><\/span><\/b>is this Sunday, June 14th<\/sup>! <\/p>\n

Tour dem Parks is a major
\nfund raising event focused on supporting groups and organizations dedicated to
\nimproving Baltimore \u2019s
\npark system. The event provides friends and families with an opportunity to
\nride together and discover little-known treasures in the city. <\/span><\/span>Registration
\nis available online here<\/a><\/span><\/span>. The tour offers 4
\ndifferent routes (12, 25, 36 and 64 miles) are available for varying
\nabilities.  The Tour begins and ends at
\n Carroll Park<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

11:00 am    BBQ and music start

ARTSCAPE,
\n<\/span><\/span><\/b>the nation\u2019s largest FREE arts festival, is July
\n16th<\/sup> – 18th<\/sup> and features BIKE PARKING.  The
\n University of
\n Maryland is sponsoring free bike parking
\nfor a less-stressful option for to getting to and from Artscape.  The bike
\nparking will be staffed with volunteers who will provide goodie bags to
\ncyclists.  To volunteer for the event, please contact Kathy Hornig<\/a> at Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts<\/span><\/b>.
\nFollowing then President-elect Obama\u2019s visit, this is the 2nd<\/sup><\/p>\n

major event in the city this year that offers bike parking.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Also at Artscape, Baltimore Bicycle Works<\/span><\/b> will be offering <\/span><\/span>Bicycle Frame
\nBuilders Exhibit & Demonstration<\/a>. Come meet some of Baltimore ‘s
\npremiere frame builders Tommy Nash, Tom Palermo and Chris Bishop at Baltimore
\nBicycle Works to display their artisan hand-crafted. Demonstration at 3pm on
\nSaturday.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In time for Artscape,
\nthe winners of the Station North Bike Rack
\nCompetition<\/span><\/b> will be installed.  These unique racks can be found
\nalong the 1700 & 1800 block of Charles
\n Street and the unit & 100 block of
\n West North Avenue .<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tour du Port<\/span><\/span><\/b>,
\n Baltimore ‘s Premier Bicycle Event, takes
\nplace October 4th. Join thousands of riders at the
\n Canton Waterfront
\n Park to kick off the 16th
\nAnnual Tour du Port. Routes range from 12 to a new 1\/2 century 50 mile ride!
\nThe route travels through over twelve historic neighborhoods, waterfront areas
\nand parks. This fully supported tour includes lunch, refreshments at rest
\nstops, map and sag and a post-ride celebration at Tour’s end. This event is One
\nLess Car’s Annual Fundraiser! All fees go directly to advancing the programs
\nand advocacy efforts of One Less Car, a non-profit dedicated to walking,
\nbicycling and mass transit in Maryland .
